George L. DeYoung

George L. DeYoung age 88 of Cedar Springs, died Sunday, April 19, 2026 at Trinity Health, Grand Rapids. He was born July 30, 1937 in Grand Rapids, MI the son of Edward and Ethel (Reeder) DeYoung. George retired from Meijer as the Meat Department Manager at age 55. He then started a portable log cutting business called Onsite Log Cutting that he operated until age 80. He was well known for his very intricate chainsaw carvings. He loved his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them. Surviving are his wife, Ruth Ann, whom he married on October 19, 1956; children, Wanda Horton, Karen (Terry) Mattox, Lori (Jason) Johnson; 5 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; sister, Helen Sorgel. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Pamela Duvall; sister, Patricia Wheaton; brother, Edward DeYoung. The family will greet friends Thursday, April 23 from 10:00 am until time of service at 11:00 am at the K.E. Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs. Pastor Michelle Vallier officiating. Interment East Nelson Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cedar Springs United Methodist Church.
