Gary Lynn Behnke passed away in his home in Howard City on Sunday, April 12, 2026. He is the son of Franklin and Velma Jean (Endlein) Behnke. Gary was born November 16, 1960 in Greenville, Michigan. Gary was raised on the family farm in Howard City and graduated from Tri-County High School in 1978. He continued his education at Ferris State University, where he studied plastics technology. Gary dedicated many years to his work, beginning his career at Vi-Chem Corporation, where he was employed for 20 years. He later worked for Meijer for 21 years before retiring in 2024.
Gary was deeply devoted to his Catholic faith and to providing for his family. He took great joy in playing euchre with his loved ones and friends, fixing anything that needed repair, and spending time outdoors—whether camping, fishing, or carefully tending to his lawn. Above all, Gary cherished his family. He deeply loved his wife and daughters and had endless love to share with his grandchildren, who brought him great pride and happiness.
Gary is survived by his wife of 42 years, Joann; his daughters, Sarah (Jason) Stadtfeld and Janelle (Matt) Saxton; and his cherished grandchildren, Alena, Emma, and Garrison Stadtfeld, and Jaclyn McDonald. He is also survived by his siblings, Nancy Hoisington, Bruce (Bonnie) Behnke, and Barbara (Tim) Alles. As well as his mother-in law Patricia Elkins, sister- and brother-in-laws, Cheryl (Joe) Kaltz and Jim VanSteenkiste.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Jean Behnke; his sister, Darlene; his brother-in-law, Larry Hoisington; his father-in-law, James Elkins; and his sister-in-law, Karen VanSteenkiste.
