Eugene A. "Gene" Bennett

Eugene A. “Gene” Bennett age 60 of Sand Lake passed away Saturday, October 31, 2026 at Corewell Health Butterworth Hospital. He was born October 6, 1966 in Grand Rapids, MI the son of Arthur and Leona (Wright) Bennett. He worked for Oliver Machinery for 43 years, the last 13 in Charlevoix. Gene was an avid sports fan, rooting for the Tigers and Lions and he played softball for many years. He was “Papa” to his grandkids and never missed any of their events. He was always there for you when you needed him and put others before himself. Surviving are his children, Erica Bennett, Kirk Bennett; grandchildren, Landyn, Dalanee, Brody, Easton, Natalie, Bryson, Kourtney and Piper; a great grandson will be born in March 2027; parents, Art and Leona Bennett; brothers, Doug (Michelle) Bennett, Rodney Bennett, Troy (Angel) Bennett; nieces and nephews; former wife, Karen Bennett; in-laws, Ken and Ann Mitz; sister-in-law, Eileen (Steve) Smalley; brother-in-law, Ken (Connie) Mitz; out-law, Theresa Johnson. The family will greet friends Thursday, November 5 from 5 – 7 pm at the K.E. Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs where the service will be held Friday 11:00 am. Visitation Friday 10:00 am, please dress in your favorite team sports wear or casual. Mr. Jim Boerema officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the family to help with expenses.
