Ernest L. Schmidt

Ernest Louis Schmidt age 90 of Comstock Park died Sunday, September 29, 2024 at home surrounded by his family. Ernie was born January 31, 1934 in Grand Rapids the son of Amos and Helen (Polzin) Schmidt. He was a graduate of Catholic Central High School. Ernie also served in the United States Army from 1954-1956. He worked at American Seating Company for 40 years while working part time at Meijer for 25 years. He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Rosemary; children, Michael (Kayleigh) Schmidt, Mary (Howard) Estill, Teresa Whalen, Susan (Dan) Deters; grandchildren, Michael Schmidt, Emmalee Schmidt, Howard Estill, Jr., Cutler Schmidt; great granddaughter, Lorelai Schmidt. He was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters. The family will greet friends Wednesday, Oct. 2 from 5 - 7 pm at the K.E. Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs. The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered 10:30 am Friday, October 4, at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, 224 Carrier St. NE Grand Rapids with visitation at 9:30 am. Rev. Fr. Danny Orris, Celebrant. Interment Sand Lake Cemetery.
