Eleanor Barber, aged 80, of Cedar Springs, passed away Tuesday, October 21, 2008. She grew up in Detroit, then, moved to Ann Arbor where she graduated from the University of Michigan with a masters degree in German. Eleanor loved to travel and it was while touring Europe that she met her husband, Alan. Eventually they settled in Cedar Springs where they raised their son, John. As a lifelong reader it was fitting that for more than two decades she was the head librarian for the Cedar Springs Public Library. In her last years she enjoyed doting on, and reading to her grandson, Benjamin. Eleanor is survived by her sister, Janet Wagner; her son, John and Jerri (Smith) Barber; and her grandson, Benjamin. A gathering of friends and family will take place at the Cedar Springs Public Library on Saturday, November 1, 2008 from 3-5pm. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Cedar Springs Public Library or to the Kent County Humane Society. Arrangements by Bliss-Witters & Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs.
