Earl Arlo Tefft, age 83, of Cedar Springs, MI, passed away on November 15, 2023. He was born on April 15, 1940. Earl was a force of nature and left a lasting impression on everyone he met. He liked to point out his initials spelled "EAT" and he never missed a good meal. He loved family get togethers’ and watching his family grow. Earl served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Cuban Missile Crisis and then 30 years in the U.S. Naval Reserves. He retired as a Chief Boatswain Mate. He proudly dedicated his time and skills to his military associations including the Kent County Veterans Honor Guard. Earl also pursued a long career with the Grand Rapids Fire Department, where he served and retired as a Lieutenant. His dedication to protecting the community was evident in his tireless efforts. In his retirement, Earl found joy in bringing happiness to others every Christmas as Santa Claus. He loved playing the role and spreading cheer during the holiday season. Earl had a passion for the outdoors and enjoyed spending his free time hunting and fishing. Earl Tefft is survived by his loved ones, including his son James Tefft (Donna), daughter Robin Atwood (Dennis), daughter Kristine Murphy (Robert), and son Steven Tefft (Calla Fisher). Grand children: Ryan Tefft (Megan), Alysee Breckenridge (Nick), Danielle Fugate (Rob), Samantha Tefft (Mike Maxwell), Nicole Atwood (Joseph Biddinger), Kylee King (Doug), Brienna Murphy, Emma Murphy and Declan Murphy. Great Grandchildren: Paige Tefft, Lenora Tefft, Shai Breckenridge and Edwyn Fugate. His two ex-wives Patricia Tefft and Vonnette Ryder as well as his friend Jan Gibbons. He was preceded in death by his parents Paul and Anna Tefft, sisters Luberta Dunaven and Mary Elna Dauchy and his grandsons Dennis Michael Atwood and Easton Wyatt Tefft. The family will greet friends Sunday, November 19 from 2-4 pm at the K.E. Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs where the service will be held Monday 11:00 am with visitation beginning at 10:00 am. Military honors by the Kent County Veterans Honor Guard. Interment Rockford Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the VFW National Home.
