Donna M. Bordewyk

Donna Bordewyk (Barendreght) 79 of Sand Lake, went home to be with her husband, Herm Bordewyk who preceded her on September 2, 2003. Donna leaves behind her children, seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren, Todd & Cindy (Walma) Bordewyk and children, Brandon, Brittany, and Amanda; Brian & Debbie (Skiba) Bordewyk and children, Brett, Bradley, Breanna, and Ryan & Kristina (Besteman) Bordewyk. She was also preceded by her brothers, Curtis Barendreght, Rodney Barendreght, Roger Barendreght, and sister, Carolyn Barendreght. She is survived by her sister, Vera (John) Paulen; brother, Jerry (Sharon) Barendreght; and brother-in-law, Dale (Shirley) Bordewyk. Donna was a member of Zonta Club International, Porcelain Art Teachers Association, World Organization of China Painters, and Northwood’s Art Club. She was an accomplished artist and worked in many media including oils, water colors, acrylics, china, ceramic and other mixed media. She loved doing murals for businesses and home and occasional flag design work. She loved to travel, and did so extensively with her husband Herm throughout the US and overseas. She also loved music, where she sang in choirs and operas, and played the piano, accordion and saxophone. Donna worked as a Librarian in the Wyoming Public Schools, as a Head Start Teacher and as an assistant in Alpena Public Schools. She also owned and managed the Kopper Kettle Restaurant in Alpena. The family will greet friends Monday, Nov. 11 from 10:00 am until time of service at 12 noon at Ensley Baptist Church, 7077 120th St, Sand Lake. Pastor Timothy Decker officiating. Interment Solon Township Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 129 Jefferson Ave. SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49503.
