Delores “Dee” Porter, 83 of Rockford, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, December 6, 2015. Dee was born April 8, 1932 in Grand Rapids, MI the daughter of John and Dena (DeBoer) Dertien. She married Aaron Porter on August 12, 1950. Following their marriage Aaron served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War in Germany. Dee and their oldest daughter Sharon joined him there for six months. She was the Courtland Township Clerk during the 1970’s and in 1979 became the secretary and bookkeeper for Oakfield Baptist Church and Academy. She retired in 1995. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and spent the last 19 winters in Florida. Dee was always active in her church and was presently a member of Blythefield Hills Baptist Church. Dee loved to open their home to friends and family. She loved baking goodies for everyone, playing games and spending time with her family. For many years Dee and Aaron mentored and enjoyed working with the young people in their church. Dee has loved and touched many lives. She always made everyone feel like family and will be sorely missed by all. Surviving are her husband, Aaron; children, Sharon (Francis) Putvin, Nancy (Jack) Marcusse, John (Kristi) Porter; 10 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; sister, Velma Straka; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Robert and Jack Dertien, who drowned in December of 1939; and a sister, Rosie Piers. The family will receive friends Monday, Dec. 14 from 5-8 pm at the Bliss-Witters & Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs. The service will be held Tuesday 11:00 am at Blythefield Hills Baptist Church, 6727 Kuttshill, Rockford. The family will greet friends starting at 10:00 am. Pastors Louie Konopka and Cliff Owens officiating. Interment Courtland Township Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Blythefield Hills Baptist Church or the American Heart Association.
