David H. Thurston

David H. Thurston age 73 of Howard City, died Wednesday, June 24, 2020 at Spectrum Health Blodgett Campus. David was born September 23, 1946 in Lakeview, MI the son of Gale and Catherine (Doerr) Thurston. He graduated from Cedar Springs High School; served in the U.S. Army for three years, and the Michigan National Guard for 20 years. He retired from General Motors 36th Street Plant after 30 years of service. He was a lifetime member of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association, and in his younger years was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed motorcycle riding, hunting, fishing, camping, and a good cup of coffee. Surviving are his wife of 49 years and 8 months, Margaret (Mays); children, Alene (Jeff) Hopkins, Aaron Thurston, Anna (Sean) Badger, Alan Thurston (Kady Demogola); 10 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; mother, Catherine Thurston; brothers, Dennis Thurston, Dale (Colleen) Thurston; sisters, Darlene (Joseph) Dawood, Dawn (Reg) Klooster, Danette (Robert) Martin; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Gale Thurston. The family will greet friends Tuesday from 1-2 pm at the Bliss-Witters & Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs. A private family service will follow at 2:00 pm. Deacon John Falicki officiating. Interment Ft. Custer National Cemetery, Augusta. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
