Clarence Reed, Jr. 86 of Cedar Springs, died Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at his home. Mr. Reed was born April 18, 1925 in Sand Lake, MI the oldest son of Clarence and Beatrice (Robinson) Reed. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Neville. He was a faithful worker at Northland Refrigeration for 38 years and a lifelong Cedar Springs resident. He leaves behind his wife of 63 years, Virginia “Midge” (White) Reed; children, Mike (Carolyn) Reed, Sharon (Jeff) Klooster, Steve (Heidi) Reed; grandchildren, Kathy (Ron) Davis, Shannon (Rob) Rowland, David (Kerri) Reed, Trey, Thomas and Trevor Reed; great grandchildren, Nolan Davis, Kurt and Kelli Rowland, Hannah and Zachary Reed; brother, Donald (Della) Reed; sister-in-law, Donna Reed; brother-in-law, Elmer “Rusty” Batchelder; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by sisters, Doris, Eloise, Laura Maye, and Arlene; brother, Orvin “Chub” Reed. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6-9 pm at the Bliss-Witters & Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs. Visitation will continue at the funeral home Friday at 10 am until time of service at 11 am with Rev. Eric Coulon officiating. Interment with military honors at Elmwood Cemetery, Cedar Springs. Memorial contributions may be made to Faith Hospice or the Friends of Michigan Veterans Homes.
