Charles D. Lutz surrounded by family, moved quietly into eternity, meeting his heavenly Father and Savior Jesus Christ, Tuesday, June 29, 2021. Charles was born on January 1, 1933 in Newberry MI the son of Fred and Esther (Barns) Lutz. His days were spent doing all the things a boy growing up in the country would do, not the least of which was getting into mischief with his siblings. He loved to hunt and early on developed an interest in cars, which would follow him well into the early years of marriage. While his interest in cars were high on his list romance was not far behind. On December 1, 1953 he married the love of his life Irena Sissel, the oldest of eight children, quickly “adopting” her family as his own. Answering the call of his country he served in the United Sates Air Force during the Korean Conflict with his bride in tow. After his tour he found employment as a heavy equipment operator, taking his growing family to lower Michigan: His wife, twin boys, David and Dennis following him around the State as he worked on various roads and highways. Charles would spend most of his career in this field looking forward to the late fall and early winter when he could “go up north” to spend time at his in-laws “farm” as well as make sure he tagged his deer during hunting season. Later he would find himself traveling far for work as a Site Superintendent for Canonie Construction Company. These days would reveal one of his greatest character traits; loyalty and love for family. If work demanded several hours of driving he would do all in his power to be home at night to be with his wife and kids, even though it meant very early mornings and long drives. This was just one mark that revealed his strong love for family. Charles, in Irena’s waning days battling dementia never left her side as her caretaker, only accepting assistance from her siblings when it became necessary. Charles is survived by his sons, David and Susan Lutz of Holland MI, Dennis and Cindy Lutz of Grand Rapids MI; sister, Leah Stewart of Gowen, MI; 17 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Irena Lutz; parents, Fred and Esther Lutz; brother, James Lutz; sister, Freda Giddis. A memorial service will be held Thursday, July 8, at 11:00 am at Cedar Springs Baptist Church. Memorial contributions may be made to Cedar Springs Baptist Church, 233 S. Main, Cedar Springs, MI 49319. Arrangements by Bliss-Witters & Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs.
