Charles Haynes, Sr., 80 of Cedar Springs, died Monday, March 31, 2008 at Metro Health Hospital. Mr. Haynes was born March 15, 1928 in Cedar Springs, MI the son of Carl and Hattie (Ridgeway) Haynes. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean War and worked for Coit Avenue Gravel Company for 40 years retiring in 1991. He was a life member of the Cedar Springs Lions Club and had worked part time at CARQUEST for the past 12 years. Surviving are 2 children, Chuck (Sally) Haynes of Cedar Springs, Jeanne (Gaylen) Madison of Branch; 4 grandchildren, Mike Haynes, Katie Haynes, Krystin Madison, Logan Madison; 1 great grandson, Alex; 1 brother, James Haynes of Cedar Springs; 1 sister-in-law, Geraldine Fortuna; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean in 1994; 1 brother and his wife, Carl (JoAnn) Haynes; 1 sister-in-law and her husband, Della (John) Doll; 1 sister-in-law, Vernita Haynes; 1 brother-in-law, Ed Fortuna; and his mother-in-law, Cora Kloostra. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Bliss-Witters & Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs, where services will be held Thursday 11:00 am. Interment Elmwood Cemetery, Cedar Springs. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cedar Springs Lions Club or the Cedar Springs Schools Athletic Boosters.
