Chandler O. “Bud” Spencer, 82 of Cedar Springs, died Saturday, September 10, 2011 at his home. Bud was born December 28, 1928 in Detroit, MI the son of Leo and Irene (Smith) Spencer. At the end of World War II he became a Merchant Seaman until 1954. He had owned a plumbing business, worked for General Motors and then worked for Chrysler Corp. as a pipe fitter retiring from the Jefferson Avenue Assembly Plant in 1990. He was an avid boater and enjoyed traveling with his wife. He was a very patient and talented craftsman with wood. Surviving are his wife, Marie; children, Pat Engelbrecht of Chesterfield Twp., Dan (Georgiane) Spencer of Oviedo, FL, Dave (Kim) Spencer of St. Clair Shores, Matt (Nancy) Spencer of Sterling Heights; stepchildren, Dan Eldred of Toledo, OH, Paula (Ron) Smith of Belmont; 10 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, John Engelbrecht; 3 brothers, Bob, Bernard, and Richard; sister, Helen Sproul. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 1:00 pm until time of service at 3:00 pm at the Bliss-Witters & Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs.
