Catherine "Katie" Thurston

Catherine “Katie” Thurston age 99 of Sand Lake, loving and devoted mother and devout catholic passed away peacefully at The Brook of Cedar Springs on Monday, August 16, 2021. Catherine was born January 11, 1922 in Remus, MI the daughter of Dominic and Otilda (Schmitt) Doerr. Katie spent her early years of marriage lovingly raising her six children and creating many beautiful quilts. She also sewed for the Red Flannel Factory in Cedar Springs, Gill Manufacturing and General Motors on Alpine Avenue retiring in 1983. Surviving Katie are her children, Dennis Thurston, Darlene (Joseph) Dawood, Dale (Colleen) Thurston, Dawn (Reginald) Klooster, Dr. Danette (Robert) Martin; daughter-in-law, Margaret Thurston; 19 grandchildren; 44 great grandchildren; 17 great great grandchildren; brothers, Al (Dody) Doerr, Bill Doerr. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gale in 1979; son, David Thurston in 2020; 3 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; brothers and sisters-in-law, Henry (Marion) Doerr, Charles (Elenor) Doerr, Bernie (Arlene) Doerr, Char Doerr. The family wishes to express their appreciation to The Brook for the loving care of their mother. Visitation will be held Friday, August 20 from 11:00 am until time of Mass at 12:00 pm at St. John Paul II Catholic Church, Cedar Springs. Rev. Fr. Lam Le celebrant.
