Carol E. Townes, 66 of Cedar Springs, died Friday, April 10, 2009 at Spectrum Health – Butterworth Campus. Carol was born December 23, 1942 in Kent City, MI the daughter of Daryell and Evelyn (Phelps) Townes. She graduated from Cedar Springs High School in 1961 and received her bachelor degree from Central Michigan University. She taught the 5th grade in Battle Creek for 5 years and then at Sand Lake Elementary for 28 years, retiring in 1998. Carol was very involved with the Cedar Springs Community Players and had volunteered many hours at the Sand Lake Library. Surviving are her sister, Alice (Robert) Peterson of Casnovia; one niece, Laura (Jeff) Mack; three nephews, Glenn Ebelt, Fritz Ebelt, and Daryell Peterson; great nieces and nephews, Christine, Julia, Michael, Seth, and Nathan. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Ruth Ebelt. The family will receive friends Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Bliss-Witters & Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs, where services will be held Tuesday 1:00 p.m. Pastor Mary Ivanov officiating. Interment Elmwood Cemetery, Cedar Springs. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cedar Springs Community Players or the Sand Lake Library.
