Bruce A. Pike 74 of Casnovia went to be with his Lord and Saviour on Thursday, April 9, 2015 at his home. Bruce was born June 7, 1940 in Grand Rapids, MI the son of Ernest and Anna (VerBurg) Pike. In 1958 Bruce graduated from Sparta High School and traveled out west to Camp Davis near Jackson Hole, Wyoming on a summer scholarship through the University of Michigan to study surveying. Upon returning back home to Michigan that fall, Bruce started working at the Michigan Department of Transportation, first as a surveyor, then as a certified office technician. That was the beginning of a life long career helping to build many of our Michigan highways. In 1996, Bruce retired from his State work, but went right back into things by working part-time at several private engineering firms, helping them with their transportation business. In 2004, Bruce finally decided to dedicate more time to leisure activities with friends and family. He was a lifelong member of Kent City Baptist Church, an avid golfer and U of M fan. Surviving are his children, Jim (Carol) Pike, Deb (Brian) Vilmont; grandchildren, Andrew (Jackie) Pike, Carisa (Henry) Muller, Kirstin (John) DeAngelis, Mackenzie Vilmont; great grandchildren, Aiyana and James; brothers, Karl (Irene) Pike, Jon (Marilyn) Pike; sister, Lori (Mike) Schutter; former wife, Charlene O’Donnell; mother-in-law, Imogene Clement; several nieces and nephews; best friends, Bill Rexford, Howard Bronkema, Al Obenauf, Clare Armstrong. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Philip. The family will greet friends Thursday, April 16 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Bliss-Witters & Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs. The service will be Friday, April 17 at 11:00 am at Kent City Baptist Church. Pastor Chris Weeks officiating. Interment Pine Grove Cemetery, Alpine Township. Memorial contributions may be made to Kent City Baptist Church, 400 W. Muskegon St, Kent City, MI 49330.
