Betty J. Baxter, 83 of Grand Rapids, formerly of Sand Lake, died Saturday, December 2, 2006 at Spectrum Health, Butterworth Campus. Mrs. Baxter was born April 9, 1923 in Pierson, MI the daughter of George and Alice (Porter) Paepke. She was a 1940 graduate of Sand Lake High School and had worked on the sewing line at General Motors Fisher Body Plant for 20 years, retiring in 1975. Surviving are 3 daughters, Sharon (Gordon) Sheller of Cedar Springs, Shelia (Randy) Ingraham of Sand Lake, Billie (Ron) Garlick of Sand Lake; 6 grandchildren, Deborah (Clinton) Dougherty, Michael (Amanda) Sheller, David (Barbara) Ingraham, Dena Jo (Dave) Rogers, William (Lori) Garlick, and Clifford Garlick; 12 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband William in 1994, 3 brothers and 2 sisters. The family will receive friends Thusday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Bliss-Witters & Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs, where services will be held Friday 11:00 am. Pastors Brian Rafferty and Cathy Rafferty officiating. Interment Pierson Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Michigan or the Lupus Foundation.
