Bette Dabney, 85 of Pierson, died Thursday, November 8, 2012 at Spectrum Health Butterworth Campus surrounded by her family. She was born June 16, 1927 in Aurora, IL the daughter of Valentine and Mildred (Testin) Hiemenz. Bette was an avid reader, enjoyed traveling, feeding the birds and squirrels, and playing Words With Friends. She was very involved in the schools where her children attended. She was a librarian at Reynolds Township Library in Howard City for 15 years. Surviving are her children, Mary (Harry) Melick of Yorkville, IL, Michael (Kathy) Dabney of Oswego, IL, Melissa (Robert) Kiliszewski of Oswego, IL, Rebecca (John) Butler of Pierson; grandchildren, Keith (Jenn) Melick, Mandy (Chris) Rivenburg, Russell (Kristin) Melick, Jonathan (Stephanie) Butler, Nikki (Justin) Butler, Emily Dabney, Scott Dabney, Jacob Kiliszewski, Nolan Kiliszewski; great grandchildren, Mason and Aiden Melick; brothers and sister, Donald (MaryLou) Hiemenz, Jack (Marilyn) Hiemenz, Mary (Lowell) Williams, Bill (Jean) Teausaw; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Walter in 2009; infant son, Joseph. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Bliss-Witters & Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs, where a Rosary will be held at 8:00 pm. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday 11:00 am at Mary Queen of Apostles, Sand Lake. Rev. Fr. Joseph W. Kenshol celebrant. Interment Pierson Cemetery.
