Bernice Evelyn (Feltis) Forgette, beloved wife and mother, passed away peacefully Thursday, April 14, 2022 at Hathaway Hills Assisted Living Facility in Greenville, Michigan. She was 86 years old. Bernice was born on January 9, 1936 to Margaret (Hope) and Vern Feltis in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. In 1954 Bernice met the love of her life, Larry Forgette, while working as a carhop at the Penthouse Drive-in. She married ‘never-going-to-get-married’ Larry that same year on New Year’s Eve and they shared 67 years together filled with love, devotion and many antics that come with having seven children together. Bernice was a patient, teaching and loving mother of strong faith. Whenever one of her children needed her help, she would drop everything to run to their aid. One such example was when she was fixing her hair for Sunday Service and had to go help a child mid-task. Upon arriving home from church that very day, she asked her children, “How come one of you kids didn’t tell me I had a comb stuck in the back of my hair?” When you have seven children there are many ‘rows’ involved in most everything you do. Each child has a row in the garden to weed, there is a row of children holding onto the grocery cart as ordered by their mom, the camping vacations all included a row of puptents for the children, the laundry (done in a wringer washer) hung in many rows on the clotheslines, a row of six girls waited impatiently outside the powder room door before school every morning and there were many, many more such stories. Bernice loved gardening, baking, cooking, reading, sewing, doing puzzles and riding motorcycles with Larry. She had her own bike in the garage parked next to Larry’s Harley Davidson. One day when Larry came home after work, he noticed that his bike had been moved so he asked Bernice about it. She exclaimed that she had decided to take it for a spin to town that day! Can you picture it…a 100 lb. lady of small stature about 47 years of age taking a 600 lb. Harley Dresser out for a spin? She was fearless; being a mother of six girls you had to be. When one of her twin daughters had only boys, she told her to be thankful for having sons and not daughters! We shall forever remember her standing outside her door at Hathaway Hills, waving good bye to her visitors until they had departed the long corridor and were no longer in her line of vision. She loved her family so very much and appreciated all those who took the time to sit and chat with her; listening to her numerous memories she was willing to share…so many fond memories in our hearts until we meet once again! Bernice will be greatly missed by her loving husband, Larry; six daughters, Janet (Jim) Korreck, Gloria (Terry) Carr, Doris (Don) Denman, Wanda (Scott) Thornton, Wendy (Alan) Hopkins and Margaret (Jim) Schofield. She was also blessed with 18 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson. She is survived by 3 brothers: Bill (Shirley) Feltis, Jim Feltis and Roy (Linda) Feltis as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Bernice was preceded in death by both her parents, son, Larry Jr., sister, June Goforth, sister-in-law and her husband, Dollie and Roy Monck, sister-in-law, Joyce, son-in-law, Tim Butler. Cremation has already taken place and there will be no memorial service at this time.
