Beatrice Irene Miller 89 of Rockford passed away peacefully and without pain at the Northview Manor, Grand Rapids on Saturday, September 12, 2009. Her daughter, Gale Nelson and granddaughter, Jennifer Burnham wished her a safe journey. She was born on December 25, 1919 in Rutland Township, MI. On the other side were her father and mother, James and Bertha Mead to welcome her with open arms. Also there to greet her were her sister, Donna Baldwin; her grandparents, aunts and uncles, and many friends and pets. While on this earth, she grew up on a farm in Hastings and graduated from Hastings High School. She got her teaching certificate at WMU and taught in several one room schools in the Hastings area. Later, she moved to Battle Creek and worked at the Battle Creek Gas Company until she retired. She was a lifetime member of the Master Gardeners Association and was considered their wildflower expert. She enjoyed volunteering at the Aboretum, loved to quilt, watch birds, and walking with her “walker friends”. Her family would like to thank Faith Hospice for the loving care they gave her, especially Mel, Carol and Ruth. Also, the kind people at Northview Manor in Grand Rapids. She will be cremated and a graveside service will take place at Rutland Township Cemetery, Hastings on Wednesday at 2:30 pm. Pastor Dick Riley officiating.
