Barbara J. Konkle

Barbara J. Konkle 91 of Sand Lake, passed away Saturday, October 10, 2009. She was born October 27, 1917 in Coopersville, MI the daughter of Karl and Cleopatra (Rathbun) Lake. Barbara was employed as a beautician at the former Morton House Hotel when she met and married her husband, Vern (Mike) Konkle. They were lifetime members of the Elks Lodge and Country Club and Barbara was a member of the Daisy Chain. When younger, she enjoyed bowling and other activities with her friends at the lodge. She and her husband owned and operated Konkle’s Bar from the late 1940’s until his death in 1973. She then retired to her summer home at Baptist Lake to enjoy the company of her children and grandchildren. Surviving are two daughters, Michele K. Konkle and Kandace B. Robinson both of Sand Lake; grandchildren, Kathleen M. (Ronald) Arbanas, Barbara J. (Richard) Hankins all of Grand Rapids, Victoria (Anthony) Torrez of Ventura, CA, Michael Robinson of Sand Lake, Christopher Robinson and Patrick Robinson of Cedar Springs; 10 great grandchildren; sisters, Polly Wiseman and Ruth VanHuisen of Seal Beach, CA. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Margarite P. Konkle; brothers, Henry Lake, Fredrick Lake, and Thomas Neper; sister, Margarite Burba. No visitation or services will be held.
