Barbara J. (Johnson) Frede age 90 of Cedar Springs, died Tuesday, July 14, 2020 at home. Barbara was born September 8, 1929 in Grand Rapids, MI the daughter of Ben and Beatrice (Murray) VanValkenburg. She loved crafting, sewing, crocheting and ceramics. She and her husband had fostered many children through the years. She enjoyed spending time with her family and at Sandy Pines. Surviving are her children, Cheri (Ron) Rysdyk, Steven (Amber) Johnson, Verna (Brian) DeVries; daughters-in-law, Sheril Johnson, Sherry Penuel; 13 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; brother, Robert (Betty) VanValkenburg; brother-in-law, Douglas Berry. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Johnson in 2001; sons, Bruce and Ronald Johnson; sister, Bonita Berry. The family will greet friends Saturday, July 18 at 2:00 pm until time of service at 3:00 pm at the Bliss-Witters & Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs. The service will be private for the family.
