Ann N. Mahoney

May 5, 1927 — December 4, 2022

Ann N. Mahoney age 95 of Cedar Springs, died Sunday, December 4, 2022 in Grand Rapids. She was born May 5, 1927 in Passaic, NJ the daughter of Andrew and Catherine (Riley) Teeple. She grew up in Nutley, New Jersey, graduated Nutley High School in 1945 and then went to work for the Prudential Company. In 1952 she married Richard and became a stay at home mother. In 1969 the family moved to Kansas City, Missouri leaving all close family behind. She began volunteer work to meet new people. Consequently, many of the friends that she made became extended family. There was never an empty seat at her dining room table. Her children’s friends loved hanging out at the house always with good food, advice and laughter. In 1975 the family moved to Grand Rapids where Ann began working as a temp at Consumers Power. Richard and Ann bought property in Cedar Springs and built their home. She volunteered at the Kent County Blood Bank and then in the 90’s began volunteer work at North Kent Service Center where she continued until she was 87. Ann was very involved with St. Margaret’s Catholic Church in Harvard. She is now a member of St. John Paul II since the reorganization of the diocese and loves that church as much as St. Margaret’s. She is fondly known by her family and friends as Miss Optimism. Every cloud has a silver lining. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her children, Barbara Cleland, Kevin and Jill Mahoney, Maureen Mahoney; grandchildren, Patrick (Lynette Polinder) Cleland, Brian Cleland, Casey Cleland, Katie (Matt) Pazynski, Kyle (Vanessa) Mahoney, Kristin Mahoney; great grandchildren, Libby and Kelsey Pazynski, Quinn Mahoney, Henry Polinder; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 50 years, Richard Mahoney; son-in-law, David Cleland; siblings, Edward (Margaret) Teeple, Catherine (Edward) Foote, Marie (Walter) Sims, Andrew (Rosemary) Teepe. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 am Saturday, December 10 at St. John Paul II Catholic Church with the family greeting friends at 10:00 am. Rev. Fr. Lam Le celebrant.
