Alger Gregory Mayo, age 91, of Cedar Springs, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, September 2, 2026 surrounded by family at Corewell Health Butterworth Campus. He was born August 14, 1935 in Cadillac, MI the son of Edmund and Alida (Alger) Mayo.
Greg served in the National Guard. He worked at WOOD TV8 for 44 years as a film editor, as a satellite coordinator, floor director, and morning news cameraman. He also used his gifts to serve the Lord running the soundboard at both Trinity Baptist Church (GR) and Magnify Church (Ensley Campus). Greg enjoyed time with his family and friends, camping and traveling. One especially memorable trip was when he took his family out west for a month to explore many of the national parks. He also enjoyed camping with friends every summer at Ludington State Park. Greg was a man of all trades and loved to tinker and fix things. If there was something broken, he came up with a way to fix it.
Surviving are his wife, Patricia; children, Steven (Sue) Mayo, Peggy (Dan) Karsies, Karen (Doug) Smith, Jodi (Tom) Wilcox; 11 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; siblings, Rod Mayo and Marilyn Truax; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Ellen Merchant, Gloria Joslin, and Darlene Towers.
The family will greet friends on Tuesday, September 15, 2026 from 1:00 pm until time of memorial service at 2:00 pm at Magnify Church – Ensley Campus, 7077 E. 120th St., Sand Lake. Pastor Steve Mayo officiating. Private family interment in Solon Township Cemetery.
