Alfred J. Schmidutz

October 2, 1966 — September 25, 2022

Alfred “Al” Joseph Schmidutz, age 55, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, September 25, 2022 surrounded by his family. Alfred grew up in Swartz Creek, MI, resided in Cedar Springs, MI and lastly Newaygo, MI. He is survived by his mother, Frances Worthington; wife, Lisa Schmidutz (Nead-Benham); three daughters, Courtney (Ryan)Austin, Nicole (Isaac) Miller, Erica (Justin) Torres; two grandchildren, Talon and Delilah; sisters, Michelle (Jeff) Riddle, Angie (Rich) Morris; niece, Savannah Ross; nephews, Michael Ross, TJ Morris, Aaron Morris. He was preceded in death by his father, Alfred H. Schmidutz and his step-mother, Suzanne Schmidutz. Alfred grew up in Swartz Creek, playing hockey and causing trouble. In the summers, he and his dad would be found at the racetracks for Sulky Racing. The falls would be filled with hunting and fishing and the winters with snowmobiling. As an adult Alfred lived in Cedar Springs and spent 20+ years working at Steelcase, Inc. It was in Cedar Springs that he met his wife, Lisa. The two got married in 2010 and lived many happy years together having grand adventures. With Lisa, Alfred gained three teenage daughters who gave him a run for his money, but he enjoyed every minute of being a dad. Alfred traveled the world visiting extraordinary places across the states, France, Romania, and many others. He loved getting in touch with his German roots spending time there. In 2015, he and Lisa and many friends built a cabin in Munising, MI and had many great times at Camp Go-Da-Town. Not long after retiring in 2020 from Steelcase, Alfred found himself a new project – he opened a fly shop in Newaygo, MI called Newaygo Fly & Tackle. Fishing was a passion of his and a cherished pastime that he shared with his father, Big Al. Alfred spent hours tying flies, casting out, watching the river ebb and flow, and catching beautiful river fish - his favorites were smallies. Above all else, Alfred’s passion was his family. Being a grandpa was the greatest achievement of his life. He loved sharing stories and showing his grandkids what life is all about. Alfred lived a cherished and blessed life. He is now at peace with his Father. Visitation will be Thursday from 2-4 & 6-8 pm at the Bliss-Witters & Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am Friday at St. John Paul II Chapel in Cedar Springs. Rev. Fr. Lam Le and Rev. Fr. Alan Jorgensen, Con-Celebrants. Interment Croton Twp. Cemetery.
