Aaron Edgar Ashley, age 73, of Sand Lake, went to be with his Heavenly Father after a long battle with AL Amyloidosis on Monday, July 6, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Kent City on January 7, 1953, to Jesse and Julia (Landry) Ashley. Aaron married Marcia Russell on December 9, 1972, at Cedar Springs Baptist Church. Throughout his life he worked in construction and as an engineer. Aaron enjoyed working with his hands; restoring classic cars and he would tinker on anything with a motor. Aaron loved to travel the country with family in their motorhome and fly his remote-control airplanes. He loved to play the cornet and trumpet. Aaron attended Maranatha Baptist Church for 15 years with his wife, Marcia. Most of all, Aaron enjoyed teaching people. He knew a little something about everything and loved to pass that knowledge on to others. Aaron cherished the time he spent with his family and will be missed by all who loved him.
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Marcia; children, Holly (Tyler) Smith, Aaron (Amber) Ashley, April (Brandon) Mead; grandchildren, Jessi, Ava, Olivia, Calvin, Abbey, Emersyn, Myah; siblings, Jesse (Connie) Ashley, Darlene Noorman; his in-law family, Brenda (Tracey) Wood, Denise (Dan) Hammerstrom, Rick (Amy) Russell, Tammy (Rick) Miller, Tracey (Bruce) Mayeda, Kris (Jerry) Marble; and many nieces and nephews. Aaron was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Julia Ashley; father & mother-in law, Richard and Loretta Russell; and brother-in-law, John Noorman.
A visitation will be held Monday, July 13 from 6-8 p.m., at Maranatha Baptist Church of Cedar Springs. Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 14 at the church with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. Officiating Pastor Rick Miller. Interment Crandall Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Aaron’s name to Maranatha Baptist Church.
